The United States of America is called melting pot, which means
the United States accepts that various racial and cultural people have equal
lives regardless of their background. As far as food is concerned, we have the
right to eat whatever we want like Vegetarian, Jewish, or Muslim do. For example,
in my dormitory, we have meal plans for Vegetarian and Muslim students. Concerning
UT, you can see many Mexican foods on campus, such as burrito and nachos, because
there are many Hispanic people study there. However, there is little Asian food
on campus though there are more Asian students are than Hispanic students. Although
Asian food is known for its nutritious and healthiness, some American are likely
to misunderstand Asian food because most of Asian food here is Americanized
and become very fatty. In terms of rice, it is always fried or seasoned greasy
not just steamed in my dormitory, which gets us to gain weight and have poor
nutrition. Practically, poor nutrition causes students to easily get sick.
UT offers sports scholarship for students, most of who live on campus and eat
food in their dormitories. It is safe to say that what they eat will affect
their performance in the long run. When I was in Track and Field club, I was
suggested to keep in my mind what I would eat before matches and competitions.
Also, weight control is critical to improve our performance. In the Union, there
are some fast food courts because students are likely to afford to purchase
those foods. It means scholarship students are more likely to get those sorts
of poor nutritious food.
Therefore, UT might violate its reputation that students tend to be exposed
to poor nutrition and the University wastes its money for sports scholarship
by ignoring food aspects on athlete performance.
