What's the good of following my proposal?
Replacement
of paper towel into hot air hand dryers brings about desirable results to
both UT and the environment.
Benefits
for UT
Installation
of hot air hand dryers in bathrooms helps cost reduction. Here is an overview
of annual cost comparisons. Although actual costs at UT facility will vary,
this is a good table to compare how much hot air hand dryers and paper towel
dispensers cost.

(Border Waste Wise)
Some bathrooms have C-Folded paper towel dispensers and others have roll paper dispensers. Either type needs disposable paper towels. You can see differences of costs between these two dispensers more or less. But what you have to see is the difference between either C-Folded or roll type and a hot air hand dryer. Despite electricity costs, a hot air hand dryer need only one third cost of a C-Folded dispenser and nearly half costs of a roll paper dispenser per year.
Given an example, there are approximately 130 buildings or facilities on campus as far as the UT map shows. Calculating one bathroom each for man's and woman's and two paper towel dispensers each. (Here I compare roll paper dispensers and dryers) Then same condition for hot air hand dryers: each building has one bathroom each for man's and woman's, and two dryers in each. This is a minimum cost:
(4 dispensers in each
building × 130 buildings on campus) × $179.11 annual costs per
dispenser = $93137.20 per year
(4 dryers in each building × 130 buildings on campus) × $106.60
annual costs per dryer = $55432.00 per year
As you see, when you
calculate at minimum costs, it goes almost one million dollars each year.
Besides, you have to add disposal costs. On the other hand, you do not need
plus disposal costs for the total of hot air hand dryers. Likewise
you can manage to cut down the costs by implementing paper-free hot air hand
dryers.

Benefits for environment
The loss of biodiversity, global warming and other problems following the warming of the atmosphere are what deforestation brings about. If you decrease and finally eliminate all paper towel dispensers on campus, how many trees are saved and how much damage to the Earth lessens? This is a wonderful thing that your decision leads to saving of trees and moreover, saving of the Earth!
Here I give some good examples of installation of hot air hand dryers and establishment of solar power which I proposed in the solution section.
Installation of hand
dryers
To what extend does hand dryers give an impact to the environment? World Dryer
Corporation did a survey at Topeka public school. Giving brief summary of
environmental advantage which hand dryers bring about, solid wasted saved
annually is 34.5 tons and trees saved annually are 587 (The impact). Wasted
paper towels, which are not recycled and are disposed as garbage at UT, will
be abolished completely if you replace paper towel dispensers into hand dryers.
It means UT never wastes a tree any more.
Establishment of solar power
As I've already mentioned in the solution section, just replacing paper towel
dispensers into hand dryers does not solve a problem. Utilizing natural resources
is required to generate electricity, so electricity consumption is equal to
waste of other natural resources instead of trees. Therefore, in addition
to installing hand dryers, I strongly recommend you to consider establishing
solar power generation device. Nippon Institute of University in Japan has
succeeded to reduce 3% of electricity consumption since they introduced solar
power generation device four years ago. On top of its building, this university
has 2300 solar battery panels which generated output is 300kw. According to
life-span cost comparison assumption by Border Waste Wise, kilowatts of electricity
used for a hand dryer are 152kw. So it is proven that generated output by
solar battery, like of Nippon Institute of University, is enough for operating
hand dryers.
