Discussion of proposal: Groups 1 & 2
You had to read "Devastating Beauty" by Teal Pfeifer (EA, p. 254-8).
Chapter 12 from Everything's an Argument discusses the main elements of proposals. One of those elements involves showing that the proposal is workable. Tell us how well the sample essay you read establishes workability based on the requirements presented in the chapter on page 246. Please explain your opinion in detail and point to specific passages in the essay.

I think that the article mainly persuades the reader by including the successful examples related to the proposal discussed. This is a strong point for the article besides the logical way used in building the proposal but I believe that since she has't talked about the unsuccessfull boycotts which I believe is the majority of the boycotts ever held, the article is not very persuasive. It would have been better if she had included the ratio of successful boycotts to the unsuccessful ones.

I believed the author showed workability through examples of past experiences and how they succeed, In the essay she used examples from the boycott of the Bus system by rose parks and the boycott used by Cesar Chavez. Using these boycotts as examples of feasible ideas for solutions to the problem of girls having bad self images. Using these examples it shows that the idea of boycotting the magazine companies would be workable and would be able to succeed.

The proposal to me doesn't seem very feasible. She did reference boycotts, but the boycotts were to help people who want to be helped, I think that girls do this because they want to be as beautiful as possible. And this is reasonable since one of the most important things in life is to procreate because it is a means of survival that developed in evolution. So, I guess I am saying while the boycotts examples are good examples of effective boycotts, I don't think that they are pertinent to the subject.
