Kefka Pwns J00...or issues with copyrighted work....
For the most part my search yielded many articles related to the events that took place, but I did also happen to find the memos that were taken from Diebold on Why War? site. Most of the memos were just boring messages related to Diebold's business, updates on the things they were working on, etc. Though not too interesting to look at, the idea of publishing them still reinforces some concerns about copyright laws. It cases like this, it's good for people to know about what's going on, specifically that it's possible for the voting machines to be tampered with. It means something can be done about it when people find out and complain. It's certainly not a good thing if the voting can be tampered with. But, there are instances when it's not necessarily a good thing to post information or other things in such a public place, especially in regards to specific ideas that can be stolen. I understand the point Boynton makes in that things should be accessible to the public so that we can feed off of each others ideas, but what we have to be careful about are those that want to steal them for their own gain. As a webcomic artist, it's important to me that no one steals the use of my characters for their own personal gain, but it would also be pointless to have the comic if no one could access it and read it. This is where I'm glad for the use of copyrights. I have no problem with people taking ideas from my comic, but I would not be happy if they were flat out stolen for other use. Everything has it's varying degrees in how it should be protected, and how the owners want it to be protected, but it is a great promotion for thought and furthering creativity if the public has access. I know I wouldn't have been able to use some of the jokes or ideas from my comic without basing them off of previous works.
