Peer2Peer Goes Legit
iMesh is entering the game a little late. They may be a few steps behind other, already established file-sharing networks such as Napster, Grokster and Kazaa, but they also have these predecessors to learn from.
I am sure they will be very prepared in making their service profitable and more importantly, legal. They have added options that they hope will appeal to the younger users like user profile and favorite track listings but one change that I am sure young users will not like is the fact that they will have to pay for all copyrighted media. This will be the biggest concern for iMesh and other file-sharing networks who have decided (were forced) to come clean and “legalize” the function of their software.
MashBoxx for instance will be launched soon by former Grokster President Wayne Rosso. There will be free music available although it should mostly be comprised of music that has no copyrights reserved; this is probably done in most cases to get less popular music out into the world. I am sure that Rosso has learned from his former company that you cannot be too carefull. iMesh has also learned wich is why they are taking extra precautions in their file-sharing. Their video files for instance can be no longer than fifteen minutes to ensure that motion pictures cannot be shared. I am sure that there are many pirates out there who will find a way to get their media at no cost but this is a good start towards the reduction of illegal file-sharing.
