Yes, a smart kitchen would be nice

Planet Earth Blog

In the article “Machine Makes Dishes on Demand” there are some amazing ideas on new kitchen appliances that would save bundles of energy. There were a few that particularly struck my fancy; the first was the machine that makes dishes on demand. According to the article it can make up to 150 pieces so you would never have to worry about dinner parties or anything. You go over to the machine, that is the same size as a dishwasher, and put in the number of whats you want and it produces them. That seems like a genius idea! To never have to worry who unloads the dishwasher, what a concept. Also, if you want to keep your ceramic dishware for a really fancy dinner party, you can still have it and just use it every now and then. But just imagine the amount of pantry space you could save; it would be amazing! As it mentions there are problems with it still, but I am guessing if they have come this far it is only a matter of time before they complete the idea.

Another invention that I found to be very useful would be the x-ray refrigerator. My kids sit in front of an open fridge and just look at it. That makes my energy bill go way up! If they could sit outside it and just see a picture that was taken the last time it was open, they would still be doing the same thing and not wasting any energy. Now the idea of the living cabinet, where you put food in and it continues to grow without roots, is a little out there. I understand how it could be useful, but I rather have fresh food not grown in my cabinet. They said that one of their invention is already being used, a microwave that reads the barcodes on the product so it knows how long it needs to be heated for. Well isn’t that just one of the smartest things I have ever heard. No more guessing how long to put in a can of soup, or waiting around to make sure you aren’t burning your food. But how would the reheating of food work, like for bringing it home from restaurants? Would you type in a certain code? That is the only thing I could possibly see wrong with this invention.

What I like about these inventions is that they are going to be useful in daily life. They are not out there ideas that would never apply to the common person. It may still be a little while before I have dishes being made in my kitchen, but I am willing to wait for such a clever invention. It saves energy and is so much more convenient. Once they get to the waterless dishwasher they have accomplished one of the biggest things. Saving energy and water would make bills much cheaper. As they said their ideas are not meant to be the final products, that is up to the manufacturer who uses the idea. So I think we should get the ball rolling on some of their inventions.

These ideas are exactly what

These ideas are exactly what we do not need in this world. People are becoming entirely too dependent on machines to do their work for them. People are lazy as it is and a kitchen like this would only make things worse. As for the x-ray refrigerator and saving energy I do not think it would help much. It might be better to somehow make a refrigerator with a glass door that goes opaque with a switch. The microwave would need to be updated all the time for new products on the market. These inventions are clever but not necessary.

A CAPITAL INNOVATION

The idea for waterless dishwashing is definitely a good idea. I believe that dishwashing uses up a good amount of water in the household (perhaps third to taking a personal bath and washing the clothes). The disposable dish idea is amazing as well, and it is nice to know that the dishes are recycled. I wonder if selections can be made on the dish-dispenser on the variations of what dishes can be used.

Once again capitalism can be good for the environment. With more demand on easier ways to do house work that saves money on the energy bill, innovations and inventions have been made to make it possible. As you know, innovations are being made with cars so that gasoline will be unnecessary. The demand for cheaper fuels leads to environmentally-safe fuels to burn. Whether it is a hybrid-electrical engine or a engine running on NuWind fuel, fossil fuels will not be burned to result in the destruction of the atmosphere or Ozone. Hopefully these inventions will receive the “go ahead” to be produced so that they will make headway for a new line of inventions that are environmentally safe. Perhaps the next invention to be considered will be an ozone-safe air conditioner that uses less energy than the typical air conditioner or a nuclear toilet that doesn’t use water!

I'll keep the dumb kitchen

Ok well these inventions sound pretty strange and sort of useless to me. The only good part is you dont have to get your own dishes out of the cabinet, because there is no cabinet. Being a lonely business owner who shop no one shops at, my microwave and refrigerator is the only interaction that I get besides the computer. Of course this is after I rearrange my dishes. I don’t understand who would want the dish on demand thing. What about all your good dishes? Where do they go? And some of those are actually decoration for your house. As for the X-ray refrigerator, I don’t think it is wasting that much energy. I think that they need to be coming up with some more helpful, important and more COST EFFECTIVE inventions. How much would all these new house hold appliances cost? So I think i will keep the dumb kitchen!
