Turkle talks about the way that people play different roles in everday life by switching their identities through virtual reality. She makes the point that this is ok to do as long as they are all "coherent with eachother." MUDs give people the opporunity to have a different identity and act in a way they may not normally. It gives people flexibility to be someone else with no one else knowing or criticising. In Jung's case, he believed it was important for everyone to get in touch with their dark side through different identities. This is probably not a good idea because once people start doing bad things, in virtual or real reality, it gets harder for them to stop. It is okay to play different identities in virtual reality as long as a person can stay in touch with their true being in actual reality, if they lose a sense of self then thay have gone too far.
