Leary's "The Cyberpunk"
The legend of ronin presents an interesting side of human nature. Most follow, very few lead. The samurai who followed this type of lifestyle led their own lives into whatever direction they pleased. They processed information and used it in which ever way it best suit them. I personally can not claim to follow a ronin lifestyle. The idea of living so freely seems very appealing, but I am not able to break myself of my underlying desires to follow the “right path” and “make something of myself”. I stand in awe of those who actually can live this way. It seems that there are different levels of a ronin lifestyle within our culture. Leary spoke of business women as if they were a part of the cyberpunk or ronin lifestyle. I could be considered to live a low-level ronin lifestyle based on the fact that I place starting a family below having a successful career in my list of priorities. However, the complete version of a ronin lifestyle will more than likely not be attainable for me because of my inherent desire to please the people I care about.
