1. What is your topic and how does it relate to the overall theme of trends and culture?
-A recent trend in our culture today is the rising popularity of plastic surgery to alter your appearance.

2. What is the main controversy? Who are the participants in the debate?
-What causes men and women of all ages, who have no dramatic disfigurations from accidents and/or from birth, to want to change their physical appearance? What are the long term effects concerning health and future trends in culture? The participants in the debate would be the people who think it is ok to alter your physical appearance, and the people who think it is morally wrong.

3. Please list all the causes/effects you intend to explore in your essay. Obviously, you might come up with other causes/effects based on your research, but it is useful to know what you have to start with.
-Body dysmorphic disorder, having a surgical procedure will increase their self-esteem and make them feel much better
- "With the increasing popularity of plastic surgery, combined with the reality show Extreme Makeover, it could be easy for the general public to overlook the serious nature of elective cosmetic surgical procedures," said Rod Rohrich, MD, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

4. What approach will you be using? Please explain if you plan to combine approaches.
-I am thinking about finding a simple cause and finding the good and bad effects of plastic surgery.

5. What information will you be looking for as you start researching the topic?
-I will be looking mainly for the good and bad health related effects of plastic surgery, as well as how plastic surgery effects our popular culture today.

This is a very good choice of topic. I hope you have enought time to deal with both causes and effects. If not, focusing on either aspect will make for an interesting argument. Go for it!
